Wales and its History

  Welsh people like you and me that should be remembered part 1 Wales has a history to match any nation, but most people have little knowledge of this, and those who think they do are often misinformed. This means fascinating people like Gruffudd below get little recognition from the people of Wales, and to me that's such a shame. I'm doing posts that summarise events in the lives of people who I believe, if they were of different nationalities, would be household names.   Many people seem to think the Welsh dragon was first used by the Henry Tudor but the Welsh were known to be using a dragon flag around 900 years before.  The red dragon also plays a part in Welsh mythology, which is a lot older still. A number of people say the first Welsh kings after the Romans left used the a dragon flag of some sort but the first use of  a dragon as we know it today was by Cadwaladr ap Cadwallon around 655

There are a number of people who seem to hate so-called ''nationalists' so much they can't handle the idea of Welsh people having any kind of national heroes or historical achievements, so they tell blatant lies to deny these things; they even claim there were no Welsh people before Wales was annexed in the 16th century. They have nothing to back them up, all the sources of the time prove them to be completely wrong on everything, nothing they say is true in any way whatsoever, here are the favrotes regarding Owain Glyndwr, but another one is the 8000 who fought for England against Llyweyyn, they act like the south Welsh army had a choice and fought Llywelyn because they didnt like him or seen him as a foreigner, but this is the middle ages, South Wales was mostly in English hands, ruled by marcher lords, people in these lord ships were required to fight when called upon, , its the sam with the Welsh army that fought wallace in Scotland, many sources say they didnt want...

Some violent events in the violent history of Wales, i need more, can anyone help me?  Like it or not, you can't deny it, Wales is a conquered nation. what is often ignored is how brutal this conquest was. people were booted off their lands, English towns were built and populated with English people, the Welsh people were excluded from these places and forced into famine and death, It is these ENGLISH towns that were atacked by Owain Glyndwr, some people twist it and say he attacked Welsh towns, they wasnt Welsh towns at the time. Below are the words written by Llywelyn ap Gruffudd in a letter to the English 2 months before he was killed in 1282. You can't get a more primary source than this; it gives you an idea of how Welsh people were treated.  This post was inspired by comments made by Neil Kinnock, who called Welsh kings and princes ''ennobled brigands.'' This comment is so far from the truth , you need to ask , has this man ever read a Welsh history book? If he had, he surely himself would know he is talking utter rubbish; the kings and princes of Wales built grand abbeys and castles, held courts, created charters, led armies of 10,000 or more, had relations with other countries and were recognised by popes The motive for his comment is to discredit the very idea of a Welsh nation. During the 1979 devolution referendum campaign, the no-to-devolution side was extremely negative and anti-Welsh. Their job was to convince the Welsh people that Wales is a glorified county with no history and no achievements, held back by a language that should have died long ago.  ..........................the Welsh give the English a good hiding during the war of 1282, Luke de Tany, the nobles Roger de Clifford, Phillip and William Burnell (brothers of the chancellor Robert Burnell), sixteen English knights (and their esquires) and over 400 of Tany's men perished. The Welsh suffered few casualties, (Battle of the bridge of boats ). This victory, and the Battle of Llandeilo Fawr in which another English army was destroyed in South Wales, temporarily delayed Edward’s conquest . 2 significant battles with at least 3000 English souls perished and nobody in England has heard about them, wonder why ? The Welsh had a number of great victories against the Normans and English, when they decided to attack from the island, 🙂 One time they killed Henry firsts, two illegitimate sons he had with Nest . The English don't talk of this, either, do they ? 🙂

As more people are talking of an Owain Glyndwr movie, the same anti-Welsh people are coming out of the woodwork with their usual lies, so I thought I would address some of these LIES. LIE 1,  He fought for the English, his rebellion was about him and not a national revolt. THE TRUTH Yes he fought for the English, but that's how things were back then, we have sources telling us of Scottish kings fighting against the Welsh and French, people think those in the Middle Ages had some sort of choice to fight in these wars, Owain had no choice , he was required to fight. Its the same with the south Welsh who fight Llywelyn, people act like they opposed him so much they all volunteered to fight against him, the facts are that the areas in south Wales were under English control, so again these people were required to fight under these English lords LIE 2 It was a North Wales rebellion THE TRUTH After Gwynedd, it was Gwent and Morganwg where most of his army come from, by the time ...
