Series on the Events of the 11 th and 12th centuries in Wales

A time in Welsh history that deserves more attention is the 11th and 12th centuries , from the campaign to unify Wales under a single king to the death of Owain Gwynedd around 1170.

These 115 years saw the biggest battles on welsh soil, lots of Welsh victories against all the odds, the appearance of the longbow cutting down Normans without mercy

We see a ruthless king of Wales who killed anyone who stood in his way, he took the fight over the border sacking Saxon towns including burning Hereford, the last Saxon king of England and his brother led raids into Wales to kill him, but he was betrayed, and his head was presented to the English. , after his death his kingdom was once again split and former royal households returned , this allowed the Welsh to get back to the tradition of trying to nick each other's kingdoms, We then see Kingdoms being seised which lead to one king sailing from Ireland to take what he saw as his, which was the kingdom of Gwynedd, He won the battle but due to in fighting between the Welsh and Irish in his army the dude he beat attacked, and he had to run back to Ireland, He came back and teamed up with another king from south Wales who also lost his kingdom and had to run to st Davids where he claimed sanctuary . After getting Gwynedd he was betrayed, kidnapped and held for 12 years by a ruthless man who was given a nickname because of his brutal treatment of the Welsh.

We see a Welsh princess who after the defeat of her father (the second king who hid in st Davids ) was brought as a prized hostage to the court of William Rufus, She had an affair with the future king Henry , they had a baby before she was married off to one of his trusted barons, the same princess was kidnapped and raped by a Welsh prince , or was this her plan? They also had babies before she was returned to her husband, her husband went on to kill this prince even though the prince was fighting on the same side,

The princess's brother married the daughter of the king of Gwynedd, while her man was away to her dads trying to get help for a new war her lands got attacked, so she raised an army along with 2 of her sons. She got beheaded, and her sons were also killed, This made the Welsh even more angry, so they attacked castles won battles including Crug Mawr which set the Normans back quite a bit. We also see invasions by the English, with armies over 30,000 being sent home with tails between their legs. There are loa
